Reg ‘ol News

Clutch - The plans for their upcoming EU tour have changed. This originally was supposed to be a celebration of their first album (95). NOW, however, they will be performing a different setlist each night, with SOME nights to include unreleased, UN RECORDED, material. PLUS they have announced once this very long tour wraps up they will be entering the studio.

Isaac Hale - The Knocked Loose, Inclination, and XWeaponX guitarist has announced that he is now doing TWO MORE projects; Everybody Dies and Couldn’t Be Me. Both projects have 5 song EPs out to be streamed on Spotify. Everybody Dies is apparently the largest departure from his work in Knocked Loose, though not un-heavy. The EP recorded for this band was done with the help of Cody Davidson of Sanguisugabogg and Aaron and Andrew Kisielewski from year of the knife.

Suggests

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories (2013) - This album was a global phenomenon, won Album of the Year at the Grammys, and is an undeniable modern classic. It's a masterclass in production, songwriting, and blending electronic music with live instrumentation and disco/funk influences. A change of pace, but fits your wider taste and its classic status is undisputed.

Gaming/Tech

Follow-ups/Corrections

Trailers

Marvel Rivals - Emma Frost https://youtu.be/thyG51IdChc https://youtu.be/OpOhyN4zYQY Apr 12 release. With the start of this season the Dev team has announced that they will now be releasing a new hero every month for the foreseeable future.

Reg ‘ol News

DaVinci Resolve - V20 just dropped and MIGHT just be enough to properly put Adobe on the spot FINALLY! And it’s mostly free!

Suggests

MK 1 - Gotta be honest this game is at least part of the reason almost every time the episode is late.

Comic Books/Books

Follow-ups/Corrections

Rogue & Gambit - Tom Brevoort, Executive Editor over at Marvel, has said that in spite of the original intention to end Rogue and Gambit’s marriage in heartbreak (more of that shock-and-awe planning we have talked about) it seems book sales are doing too well right now to pull that trigger just yet. Though, look no further than the current 616 iteration of Spider-Man and MJ to see that the heartbreak is only a matter of time. https://boundingintocomics.com/comic-books/after-years-snubbing-spider-man-and-mj-fans-marvel-comics-exec-editor-says-he-wont-break-up-x-mens-gambit-and-rogue-because-readers-in-general-seem-to-be-invested-in-them-as-a-couple/

Suggests

Immortal Hulk (Marvel Comics, 2018 - 2021)

Writer: Al Ewing / Artist: Joe Bennett (primarily)

Genre: Superhero / Body Horror / Psychological Horror

Forget "Hulk Smash." This run is DARK. Ewing leaned hard into the horror aspects of the Hulk, drawing inspiration from Cronenberg and classic monster movies. Bruce Banner can die, but the Hulk comes back... at night. It's twisted, unsettling body horror mixed with deep psychological dives into Banner's fractured psyche and explorations of cosmic horror, gamma radiation as a demonic force, and critiques of capitalism. Joe Bennett's art is visceral and genuinely disturbing at times. It's widely considered one of the best Marvel runs in decades and totally revitalized the character. Perfect for the nerd who likes their superheroes served with a side of existential dread and monstrous transformations – definitely resonates with a metalhead sensibility too.

TV Shows

Follow-ups/Corrections

Peacemaker - Season 2 release date Aug 21.

Trailers

Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld  - https://youtu.be/GkywNANueew?si=YNVFlR4S1EA6jcyW Cad Bane RETURNS! May 4th the fan favorites Bane and Asajj Ventress, return to Disney+.

Predator: Killer of Killers - https://youtu.be/eWzPKrNoSyM Hulu animated series. LORE BUILDING! June 6, get your GORE on!

Suggests

Game of Thrones (HBO, 2011-2019)

Genre: Epic Fantasy / Political Drama

Despite the controversial ending (which itself is a huge discussion topic!), GoT was a global phenomenon that redefined fantasy on television. It brought epic scale, complex characters, political intrigue, shocking twists, and high production values to the genre like never before. Dragons, White Walkers, massive battles – it hits all the fantasy buttons. But it also has that gritty realism, moral grayness, and sudden violence that keeps things grounded and intense. Its impact on pop culture is immense, making it an essential modern classic to cover. Just stay away from seasons seven and eight.

Movies

Follow-ups/Corrections

Minecraft - Movie opens with $162M domestically, and $313M world wide, at the box office. Possibly because it is one of the largest gaming franchises in history… possibly due to the sneak peak at Superman. We may never know. But what this seems to be with a little more certainty is that this is an example of Hollywood, apparently, giving an audience what they want instead of agenda driven and preachy content. So good on WB/Legendary for getting this one right it would seem. Just barely edging out Barbie’s opening weekend by about 700K.

Thunderbolts - Tickets on sale for the movie. May 1 is advanced Thursday release.

Death Stranding - The movie has a writer and director in Michael Samoski. Samoski was co-writer on A Quiet Place: Day One and Pig with Nic Cage.

Trailers

Tron: Ares - https://youtu.be/9KVG_X_7Naw?si=WNYnMqfO34b4Dtrc Tron breaks into the REAL world? Worlds Collide October 10th.

Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning - https://youtu.be/fsQgc9pCyDU?si=oy6E92hLwWDpODlu May 23. If you weren’t already going to see this, then maybe this will do the trick. But c’mon… it’s the last MI movie.

Suggests

Dark City - It's a mind-bending sci-fi thriller set in a city trapped in perpetual night, controlled by shadowy figures who literally reshape the city and everyone's memories while they sleep. One man accidentally stays awake and starts unraveling a terrifying conspiracy about human identity. Released in 98, you will likely see A LOT of things the filmmakers of the Matrix borrowed from this movie. PLUS there is a new 4k collector’s edition coming out soon.
STREAMING: for rent on Prime and Apple TV+.

Rumor Mill

New Rumors

Molecule Man?? - Is Robert Downey Jr playing Molecule Man TOO? The birthday card that the Russo Brothers shared on their social media for Downey’s 60th seems to weirdly imply such things.

Fortnight - Movie rumors are now circulating since Minecraft has destroyed expectations. Disney is a stakeholder in Epic Games, which would implicate them for distribution.

James Bond - New rumor about who is going to direct, being Alfonso Cuaron. Cuaron has done Harry Potter, Children of Men, and Gravity, to name a few.

Star Wars - Shawn Levy’s still in development movie is now being rumored to have cast Jesse Plemons as its villain. You will recognize his face from Civil War, and Black Mirror, amongst other things.
