Music Week In Nerdom 1-7 - Tool, Rammstein, KsE all finishing recording,...

The Week in Nerdom is BACK!

News

Tool
Maynard has finished recording his vocals for the new record. Hard to believe the last Tool record was 2006’s 10,000 Days. If Maynard is truly done tacking, then the rest of the band must be too, so we should be seeing this new record by the end of the year.

Rammstein
The industrial giants have officially finished recording and the new, still untitled, record is set to release in April. Assuming everything goes as planned. What’s more, they are embarking on a tour in May across Europe, and have something in the neighborhood of 5 videos planned for release around the same time as well.

Killswitch Engage
Speaking of bands finishing recording and vocals, Jesse Leach has finished his vocals on the next KsE album. This will be their first record on Metal Blade Records, and possibly one of the most raw vocal experiences as Leach is now in the middle of a divorce. The album, ALSO untitled, is set to be out early this year.

Reviews

Bias https://youtu.be/F70z7HAeBzE
Pity - David Silveria’s newest attempt at relevancy sees him trying to recreate what he sued his way out of. The guitar work is un-original, the bass is lack luster, the vocals are a weaker version of Jonathan Davis (somehow that actually IS possible). As it applies to the genre, even there it is mediocre at best. Enjoyability is a little bit of a different story, but only a little. There is a C part, or bridge, that I didn’t see coming and that adds a little bit of sonic diversity. While it was a refreshing break, it just highlights the worst parts.
Overall - 60/100
Genre - 60/100
Musicianship/Performance - 50/100
Enjoyability - 65/100

Seekers & Finders - Video https://youtu.be/5Isw6DcgOQE
Gogol put out a new record this passed August, Seekers and Finders, and this is the first video from the album and it features Regina Spektor. The song itself feels a little low key for Gogol. The pop structure is a bit boring to boot. Generally speaking the video isn’t helping either. I like that there is some ACTUAL performance footage thrown in there, but most of it is imitation performance footage. Check out my live review from their New Year’s Eve shows: https://youtu.be/Y25E4rhDofU
General Score: 70/100
Video Quality: 60/100
Song Enhancement: 60/100
Enjoyability: 80/100
